A picture-perfect morning was how day 6 of the Ensis Engadinwing by Dakine GWA Wingfoil World Cup started. Identical conditions to day one were upon us with no cloud to be seen, bright blue skies, and a forecast that showed promising wind.

Coming into the final day the pure focus was centered around Surf-Slalom. With the plan to run 11 women’s heats and 8 men’s, discarding the worst two scores for each athlete we knew an epic day of slalom was on the cards.

Day six – Sunday 19th – All the stars aligned for a perfect Silvaplana day on the final quest to finalise our Surf-Slalom male and female champions.

ARTZNER DOES THE DOUBLE IN BACK-TO-BACK SURF-SLALOM WINS

It was another event to remember for Flora Artzner (FRA) as she claimed her second title of the year following the win in Leucate with another here in Switzerland. The F-One rider displayed faultless racing early on winning near-all heats she contented in. Combined with her other finishes, Flora came out on top after 11 thrilling elimination rounds. Will we see her get the triple during Lanzarote in just a few short weeks’ time?

Duotone teammates Paula Novotna (CZE) and Nia Suardiaz (ESP) had battles in near all heats with elimination nine being a standout heat of the day. Novotna was looking to do the double with a Surf-Freestyle win in the bag but couldn’t quite catch Flora’s score. Nia showed consistency throughout which edged her that all-important second-place finish.

CAPPUZZO BOUNCES BACK FROM SURF-FREESTYLE DISAPPOINTMENT

After a low blow knockout in the Surf-Freestyle, Francesco Cappuzzo (ITA) put on a show-stopping display in the remainder of the men’s race heats. With top finishes in nearly all heats he participated in, the Italian waterman was all about speed as the pack couldn’t quite match what he brought to the table. A result like this will fill Cappuzzo with bundles of confidence heading into the next world tour stop.

Titouan Galea (NCL) and Camille Bouyer (FRA) put on solid day six performances and secured themselves a top-three finish. The crowd sure did appreciate the tight-knit close-call slalom racing that happened on the final day.

That’s it from Switzerland, stop two on the GWA calendar! It’s been another week to remember with new podium winners and unreal competition from start to finish. Each day brought something different. The rankings have now well and truly opened up and with the next stop in Lanzarote just a few weeks away, all athletes will use the time in between to prepare, train, and come back stronger than ever.
