The Canarian rider Ancor Sosa topped the Surf-Freestyle and FreeFly-Slalom disciplines at GWA Wingfoil Qualifying Series Gran Canaria Air Battle that went down in Maspalomas.
Sosa, a top-level competitor on the GWA Wingfoil World Tour, easily won the final of the Surf-Freestyle competition that took place in perfect 20 knots breezes off Playa de Las Burras.
He saw off a challenge from Walid Benhammou, from Fuerteventura, who took the second podium place. The third place went to Manuel Morillo, from Lanzarote, who had won the mini-final against Alfonso García.
“Ancor [Sosa] launched the most spectacular tricks and was the only one who attempted complex manoeuvres, such as the Back Mobe, and some with double rotations, such as the Frontside 7,” said Alejandro Díaz, one of the event judges.
The young Canarian athlete repeated the feat when he went on to dominate the Surf-Freestyle discipline, winning 11 elimination rounds to take the overall victory. Jeremy Rodríguez got the second podium place, with Manuel Morillo in third.
The GWA Qualifying Series allows the athletes to collect points to gain entry to the GWA Wingfoil World Tour, with the best two results in the past 12 months counting to the total.
